Thank You, Detroit!
To all of my supporters, volunteers, voters, and neighbors across District 5 — thank you.
While the outcome of this election was not what we hoped for, I am deeply grateful for the trust and support you showed me throughout this campaign. Together, we raised our voices for accountability, for justice, and for a Detroit where every neighborhood is respected and every resident has a seat at the table.
Public service has never been about titles for me — it has always been about people. I will continue to fight for the values we share: mental health services rooted in compassion, civilian oversight of law enforcement, housing that honors our communities, and opportunities that uplift rather than displace.
I remain committed to being a voice for those too often left out of the conversation. This movement doesn’t end with one election — it continues with every conversation, every block meeting, every effort to hold power accountable and demand transparency.
Thank you for walking this road with me. The journey for a better Detroit is far from over — and I’ll still be on the frontlines.
In solidarity,
Commissioner Willie E. Burton
